I originally wanted to create a thread about nuclear energy (as 2011 has caused some controversy), but since all that is linked, I decided to create a thread where you can discuss about everything related to energy. Things like which one you prefer (nuclear, solar, wind, biological, oil, gas), your view on the Kyoto Protocol ect. Assuming there aren't too many problems with storing, I believe solar energy is my favorite of the renewable energies. They may cost something, but they are more productive than some others (like biogas) and don't take away too much space (you can build them on the roofs of houses). I already know that this thread is not going to be successful, but whatever.

F1 leads car technology to the way yet again

I wish it was possible to expand that on more than just cars. I have already thought about how to reuse normally lost energy because in physics, we once calculated that the amount of energy a cup of tea loses when cooling from 100 to 40°C is enough to let a 20 watt light bulb glow for more than 50 minutes.

I wish it was possible to expand that on more than just cars. F1 uses braking energy for kinetic recovery, so I doubt it's very likely to be used on anything else other than vehicles/automobiles.

I was speaking generally, I know that a mechanism in vehicles can't apply to not moving things. It's great that we can use at least some otherwise lost energy though.

To revive this thread a bit, what are your views on the Kyoto Protocol? As we are in an animal forum, people like biodiversity and surely say yes to it (I am no exception, although there were some serious "climate crimes" by countries who tried to achieve the aims set in the protocol), but maybe we have some economy>ecology people here.

I know that this is a biased video and ignores the insane costs this could cause, but think about it! How awesome would it be if we really had such roads?

I admit, making them pressure sensitive was very stupid. But maybe it would be possible to make something very similar, but constructed to be robust rather than pressure sensitive?

Sounds like science fiction, or rather, I know a lot of science fiction that is more realistic. But it would definitely look cool

Really great analysis. I always knew this is unaffordable, but I would have never guessed that it would cost like 30 times the US budget (my own guess, considering the glass only makes up a fraction of the costs).
