I feel like the Paleocene's fauna is underappreciated and probably understudied.

After countless Dino-birds from China, we finally have one from Germany/Europe again who is not a synonym of Archaeopteryx in some way. Meet Alcmonavis poeschli, an animal slightly closer to the "bird" side of the bird-dinosaur spectrum (both phylogenetically and superficially, as it was likely a better flapper than Archaeopteryx):

Two new theropod dinosaurs from Thailand: Phuwiangvenator yaemniyomi and Vayuraptor nongbualamphuensis. The former was identified as a non-megaraptorid megaraptoran coelurosaur, and the latter as a coelurosaur (with unclear affinities closer than that). So...does this mean megaraptorans are in fact basal coelurosaurs or what?

Maybe I should've been more clear myself. It does seem to expel the notion about megaraptorans being allosaurids, which I don't find to hold much water in light of Fernando Novas' study and whatnot

Supercommunist: Anyone find it kind of weird how some people portay gigantosaurus as a finese predator compared to a tyrannosaurus? Given that tyrannosaurus had the smaller gape and the duller teeth, wouldn't it require more precision? Aug 27, 2024 23:49:00 GMT 5
