Aren’t thoroughbreds specifically bred to be really fast runners, though? Maybe the extent of artificial selection we’ve put on them allowed them to move faster than they otherwise would at half a metric ton.
That’s just a guess, though.

^That is a good point but from what I understand ponies are generally considered slower than horses despite the fact that horses over 14.2 hands fall outside of what the considers to to be the ideal weight range. www.viovet.co.uk/horse_weight_estimate.phpI think the team is mostly on the mark they just might have not gotten the exact figure right.

I favor the Triceratops due to its superior agility. I think it would gore the mastodon to death. However, it would probably get wounded in the process.

IMO the ceratopsian's horns are less liable to break than the mastodon's tusks. Not 100% sure about that though.
Additionally, this depends on what species of Triceratops we are using. The OP didn’t specify.
