I think it's a good matchup. The only possible problem is vagueness. It's not like "short-tusked elephants" are a recognized subspecies or have a defined tusk length and all. We decide a lot of our matchups quantitatively, so this might be difficult.
I'd still say do it. It's not hard to specify a tusk size.

Does anyone know how many African lions are a fair match for a hippo? I want to make that matchup but I'm not sure how many to use

More ought to be used. 5-6 works

Purussaurus float of 4 vs male Megalodon is a good match

Anyone know what kind of animal might be a good matchup for Dreadnoughtus? I was thinking either Eotriceratops or some big elephant such as Palaeoloxodon or steppe mammoth, but I'm not sure.

How about Bengal Tiger vs Asiatic Lion? Both live in India so I thought it would be interesting.

smedzMaybe use Bengal tigress? I believe a Bengal tiger would be too big for an Indian lion

If you have a max weight male lion against an average weight male tiger, they would actually be in the same weight range.
190 kg vs 221.5 kg= 419 lbs vs 488 lbs

I thought ~220 kg was the tiger's average?
If it's max, that may be fair

221.5 is the tiger's average.

Oh, sorry. Misread your post.
On average for both, the weights are a bit too far off
