Depends on their sizes. avg sizes , 50-50 ... large specimens.. the gator wins

the comments here are old but i just wanted to say that especially in urban areas, alligators do predate large animals(namely livestock).
I know one author stated alligators "have a fondness for bear meat", but elaborated little on that matter.

Unless we are talking a tremendously sized specimen of Alligator, i'd favor the bear on land by a fairly wide margin.
It's a great deal more maneuverable than a gator, and whilst being low to the ground might prevent it being flipped over, it also means it could do little if the bear secured a nape hold.
Essentially I don't see bear vs crocodillian matchups as any different from big cat vs crocodillian matchups.

Bear wins on land. Alligator in water. In shallow water, it's even.

I'll give this to the gator on land and in water. It's larger, better armed, more durable, and I am not even sure if the bear could cause any damage at all before the alligator attacked.
