The hippo should win here although this seams pretty close , I favor the hippo due to its better bite force and more aggression

50% is A LOT of weight advantage still. As for the rest of your post, I'll wait for that max size source before replying further. In this thread, blaze gives the dimensions of the record hippo: theworldofanimals.proboards.com/thread/694That should tell you what you need to know, but if it is not enough, I think they went more into detail here: tapatalk.com/groups/carnivora (If you need elaboration, log in with your username and password, find Blaze's profile, and search their posts with the key word hippopotamus. I would screenshot it but my account was banned) Now, about weight: I agree 50 percent is a substantial mass advantage, and certainly cannot be overlooked. However, the hippopotamus is significantly more competent on land than the seal, and I imagine a bite from the hippopotamus would do a fair deal more damage than a slam from the seal. As I said earlier, it comes down to 2 things here: who needs less hits to kill, and who can apply their weapon more efficiently. As I suspected..that "research" ( quotation marks because, if my understanding is correct, they basically went out "destroying" and then slaughtering the poor animals) doesn't actually say anything about the maximum size of the species. The sample size is FAR too small and locally limited. I agree with your other points. Voted 50:50
