^Maybe Dimetrodon wasn't the only big dangerous apex predator of the Red Beds. This is how Eryops' skull compares to that of Dimetrodon ( link). It had very strong teeth with three pairs of palatal fangs, and these teeth were moderately carinated ( Rinehart & Lucas, 2013). I'm sure it was still hunting a lot of small prey, but looking at its skull and dentition, maybe it sometimes also hunted larger game.

Think the biggest issue would be actually eating a large prey items. I am guessing eryops couldn't chew and we don't know whether it was capable of death rolling like a crocodile. I wouldn't be suprised if eryops also every so often attacked animals bigger than it could take, similar to how crocodiles sometimes make the mistake of attacking elephants. 64.media.tumblr.com/5c8b143078673be3d778b2e17e7236cc/tumblr_nb123btLkA1tb7pkqo1_1280.jpg

Ooh, that's a nice model. Daeodon I presume?
I assume an Eryops could do something like a death roll just from looking at its skull, but I admit that's an assumption. I guess that's what the moderately developed teeth on its cutting edges are for.
