My county now has more recovered cases than new cases. Granted, we have a small sample size (3 active cases with 4 recovered). According to the state, 17,629 people have have been tested for the virus, 1,953 positive. That comes out to ~9% of the people testing positive. Our hardest hit counties are Clark county and Washoe county so far. The smaller and more rural counties, such as mine, got very little of this nastiness. People are still hoarding toilet paper though....

Unfortunately, Australia now has more than 6,000 confirmed cases and the national death toll has reached 50. Sorry to hear that. The Trump administration's gross incompetence in handling the coronavirus has led to the U.S. being the hardest hit country in the world. Hopefully your leaders have learned from our mistakes, have been preparing, and will institute all proper medical and social distancing measures.

Our national death toll's gone up to 53 and we're currently on "Stage 3" lockdown. We can only leave our homes for daily exercise, to go to work/school, to get medical care or to go shopping for essential supplies. Hundreds of people have already been fined for non-essential travel. Normally, during the Easter long weekend, people would be going on holiday. Can't do that now. Everyone has to stay at home, whether they like it or not. Of course, there are people ignoring the social distancing rules. Honestly, how many times do people have to be told to stay at home before they'll get the message?

Co-infection with SARS-CoV-2 and Influenza A Virus in Patient with Pneumonia, ChinaAbstractWe report co-infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and influenza A virus in a patient with pneumonia in China. The case highlights possible co-detection of known respiratory viruses. We noted low sensitivity of upper respiratory specimens for SARS-CoV-2, which could further complicate recognition of the full extent of disease. Beginning yesterday there were reports on social media stating that English mathematician John Horton Conway died on the 11th of this month (so yesterday), attributing his death to the virus. www.scottaaronson.com/blog/?p=4732maddmaths.simai.eu/news-2/conway-morto/This doesn't seem to be confirmed yet, though; as far as I can tell, the claims can be traced back to social media sites (particularly Twitter). Wikipedia's article still considers him living and is awaiting more reliable confirmation regarding his status. I didn't know a whole lot about Conway (I had heard of him, but my knowledge was limited to him being a mathematician), but I'm crossing my fingers that this man is not actually dead.

I don't know if this has been posted before, but I'd like to notify everyone of this post: support.proboards.com/post/7227898/threadBasically, posting misinformation on COVID-19 will from now on be treated like a punishable offense with the usual penalties (first warning, then bans etc.). I said before that we don't punish people for posting untruths on WoA (I think I talked about us having no ministry of truth), but if proboards wants it that way, so be it. There have been no cases of someone posting deliberate misinformation on COVID-19 on WoA so far, but given that it has happened on Carnivora (*cough* Shin *cough*), it's not impossible that someone might get the idea here, too.

Even a Princeton professor and one of Conway's colleagues announced his passing, and also attributes this to COVID-19. I'm not sure what other developments might be revealed, but I think it's clear that unfortunately, yes, John Horton Conway is dead, and likely due to the current virus pandemic.

One of my relatives in USA succumbed to the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus strain recently; he was a middle-aged man.
To all members of WoA; take care of yourself and your loved ones. Follow advice of health experts and take necessary precautions.

My condolences Life.
The other week, my mom felt sick and she actually went to see if she had the virus. Luckily she tested negative. I assume my relatives elsewhere are okay.

My condolences, too. That must suck.
I thought my household was safe, as none of them is exactly in a risk group, but that middle aged man probably wasn't either. Good that I'm already in my home office anyway.

It is mildly alarming to me that people think this is a "hoax" or the fact that its mutated and the knowledge around it is everchanging, take it as proponent to not follow CDC guidelines. This is especially prevalent in my county.

The idea that there's a government conspiracy behind covid-19 is distressingly common in my family, too. I don't think it's gonna kill us, but it's still unpleasant.
