^Looked at it again, and it seems you're right.

Thought a bit about it and could it be that Spinosaurus (if this reconstruction is correct) was comparable to modern hippos? I know, bad analogy, since the hippo is quadrupedal, but it still has very short legs for such a massive body. Also, I remember both being compared in the isotope study.

The femur of a hippo is not that far off from their skulls in length and the whole leg is not far off from being twice as long, of course the legs being flexed makes them look shorter along with the hippos barrel chest. The main problem with that reconstruction is that the legs are not only short but tiny, small and gracile not short and stout.

True, then I guess we have to hope for a good explanation.
It is interesting that the reconstruction Ausar posted claims to be based on the mount, but has extremely thick legs in contrast to the gracile mount legs.

I read on Darren Naish's twitter than the reconstructions that have surfaced so far are inaccurate. I wonder when is the paper coming out, September or October mmm.
On to another not so related thing, I'm trying to reconstruct the skull of Baryonyx based on Irritator, I can't realistically replicate Cau's 75cm skull, I mean, I can but the bones don't fit realistically IMO, I can make it go down to 80cm but unless one assumes that the mandibular fenestra was considerably posteriorly displaced and very very small (that's it, not what we see in Irritator) then the head ends up with an underbite, 90cm then seems more realistic.

That makes sense.

Case in point: The one above is 90cm in Pmx-Q, the one below is 80cm.

lololol I rearranged the legs so they are in a neutral standing posture. That’s just gorgeous. Those legs rather seem like they are about the lenght of those of a hippo in absolute terms…

I am slowly starting to think that the ancestors of whales would be a better analogy (this comment is meant to be a bit satirical)…

Yeah, the ancestors of whales had far longer legs… Unless you are talking in absolute terms lol

Can't wait for the information. Finally some solid answers. I guess there's a lot of suspense and thrill for mega-theropods enthusiasts these times.

Damn I was just going to share it !
The artworks are beautiful. Seems like the Milan reconstruction, mostly aquatic lifestyle, quadrupal position and the 15 m figure are getting confirmed.
