Tyrannosaurus skeletal reconstruction by Hartman with Livyatan skull reconstruction. Awaiting any comment.

Well, T. rex is the largest tyrannosaurid and one of the largest carnivorous dinosaurs whereas Livyatan represents the largest tetrapod bite and one of the largest macro-predators ever. Indeed no contest. Even the largest pliosaurs look pathetic compared to Livyatan. .

According to the supplementary information of Lambert et al (2010), the skull of Livyatan is actually 2.9m long ;D haha
Indeed an increadibly impressive skull and defintely, physiteroids have giant heads, is incredible that the total length of Livyatan is only 1m longer than Sue. Compared to the P. kevani, Sue's skull doesn't look that bad.

Someone's (most) favorite animal and least favorite dinosaur in this size comparison. The Spinophorosaurus is paratype, probably around 13 % bigger than sub-adult specimen with 1215 mm femoral (this one is ~ 137 cm) .

In anycase, the whale was in the size range of the modern sperm whale. Not surprisingly, pliosaurs skull are quite flat. McHenry showed that a 1,8 m long Kronosaurus skull had less volume than the skull of Sue.

Actually 2.94m haha unless my PDF has typos
Yeah, but I kind of lean more to that estimate based on similarly sized spearm whales rather than the much smaller Zygophyseter but who knows, maybe it actually was in the 16m+ range.

Even then the original estimate is problematic, since the original dataset had an individual strongly influencing the regression line.

Excluding that individual (note there was another individual large but thinner headed influencing the regression line in the other way), the mean value of the others was in the 14-15 m range, which sounds safe.

Yes but by this logic you can then start to segregate the higher ends, as there are only two individuals falling in the 15.5-16 m range. All the others are much nearer in size each others. While the smallest estimate may be quite small, I don't think there is enough reason to segregate it, and no wonder Lambert et al did not.

I second that notion.
