African lion vs grizzly bear from Photobucket Are African lions really longer than grizzly bears. I think the comparison is somewhat off. I think grizzlies are a little longer from head to tail than this, and they are more robust than lions, but not quite as much as this picture indicates. The bear looks a little too short and compact in comparison to the lion.

Do you think that could be the cause?

It's really hard to tell as these are obviously not real animals interacting with each other in real life. It's just a drawn representation, isn't it. The bear's back leg (legs?) don't really seem to be drawn that well. I will say this seems to show a bear about as big/fat as it can get, right after feeding all summer and fall before hibernation. Whereas the lion seems about right, but perhaps slightly on the thin side. Would be interesting to see the bear compared to the lion during other parts of the year when it isn't carrying so much weight. Bears are interesting that way, how dramatically their weight can fluctuate during the yearly seasons.

Do you think that could be the cause? It's just a fat bear. Pre-hibernation form. As for the length, I'd say the postures can have a great effect on the visual impression. The bear's lower back is crumpled while the lion's is on the stretch side so their spines aren't represented at equal terms.

On Carnivora, there may have been a comparison with 2 non-contorted animals. Do you think I should try and find it for here?

Find and post a good one if you want, I guess.
