Hippo skull vs Allosaurus fragilis skull - average vs average So, what is the average skull length of Allosaurus fragilis, and where did you get it from? Hippo skulls are about 50-60 cm, Allosaurus fragilis is 9 meters and 2 tons average So, these helped me get my figures. I took Franoy's skeletal of it, which is a bit under 9 meters, and upsized it. From that, I got roughly 80 cm. |

From that, I got roughly 80 cm. Ok, followup question, where does 9 meters/2 tons come from? Well, couple of things: 1: Here's Big Al - about 70 percent grown I think. 7.3 meters, 1.5 tons (ignore the Neovenator, that is the best image I could find  2: In that image is also a bigger specimen; seems to be 8.8 meters and 2.4 tons. Now, about where I got it from: I did do a bit of looking around, and it seems 8.5-9 meters is the most common average for Allosaurus fragilis, as per these sources: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:BookSources/978-0-89950-917-4www.nps.gov/dino/learn/nature/allosaurus-fragilis.htmpeabody.yale.edu/store/allosaurus-fragilis-marsh-1877(ignore the weight estimate on the last one; I think it's using outdated methology) I may be a bit off on length and weight overall, but it seems I was close enough |
