Personally I say yes. I myself have sampled insects in china and it tastes exactly like chicken. From what I hear rat doesn't taste too bad either. More importantly as most of us are all probably aware of, rodents and insects reproduce at a rapid rate and many of them are extremely adaptable to poor habitats (sadly most modern day slaughterhouses have horrific conditions) and thus are probably more reliable sources of meat than cattle and pigs. Also it should noted that the smaller size of the animals would make overcrowding less of a problem, and killing them would be a quick and painless affair.
Unfortunately whenever I suggest these ideas around people I know in real life, they are quick to call my ideas disgusting and reject it though I haven't heard any real reasons why as of yet. Seeing how most of us here are rational people I would like to see your responses.

Sounds good to me, but I'd take dogs over rats and bugs any day.

^ man you don't eat the other species in mutually beneficial symbiotic relationships, that's just rude. As for the topic at hand, if its good enough for my lizards its good enough for me, would take some getting used to but I don't see why not.

Best not let that meat go to waste! The most exotic meats I've ever eaten are; Snapping turtle, Pheasant, Squid, and Bison.

However like denoted by you there are many cultural problems, because "western" people aren't used to eat insects. The only accepted arthropods seem to be shrimps, lobsters etc. I think changing feeding behaviours would be a long-term process, anyway our current system of a pig and cattle industry isn't very substainable.

Fully agreed. I personally don’t see why many people like eating shrimps or squid, but suddenly appear so shocked as soon as something is not a typical food item. Relying on rodents and insects is a good way to get by a healthy and economically sensible source of meat.

Maybe because shrimps and squids are more "exotic" than e.g. grasshoppers or because the animals have a bad reputation like maggots.

I meant its fairly stupid people eat one thing and find another disgusting just because the first is more exotic. Imo that isn’t a logical reason to not eat something.

^I agree. Probably many people fear these animals because of the epidemics they have carried, but it shouldn't be a problem to prepare the food in a way that doesn't make you ill.

I however doubt you'll have any luck convincing your mom to ever eat a rat or insect tho. Good luck to the endeavor though I doubt the idea will carry anytime soon
I think it mostly has to do with looks though, a cooked shrimp looks FAR more appetizing than a cooked spider or bug etc. It's said most people eat with their eyes before their mouth and I can understand. I absolutely will NOT eat fish if its still got the eyes and scales etc. I simply won't. It's creepy.

Strange, that’s the way I like my non-tetrapod gnathostomes the most....
lol I have been trying to talk my mom into cooking some insects, or rodents, or the clams I had collected from the lake for the last few days, without success. I guess I’ll have to prepare that stuff myself, although I fear it won’t be get tasty since I’m really not a good cook.
the point is, I know what squid and shrimps and clams taste like, not bad at all, and I really don’t see the reasons why it should be any different with grasshoppers (they even look kinda like shrimps to me), if properly prepared of course.

I don't think the preying mantis gonna like us taking they crickets..... we already got misunderstood sharks and whales crying sea salt tears cause we taking they shrimp. You ever been attacked by a mantis theropod? I have. ..... little ******s hurt.

A wild cephalopod in a restaurant would never question their hygiene conditions (it would be just weird...) and it's pretty unlikely to find a living shrimp in your salad, if you know what I mean. In a phylogenetic point of view it's of course unlogical.
