The reason why the people need more children there is because they won't have a payed pension, nor a health insurance, so they need people who care for them if they are too old or ill. Not to mention they need people helping them with their work. Most of the women in such countries don't work, so they have more time to care for children than in the richer ones.

The countries in Europe, Australia, etc with low birth rates increase only through immigration. The population on earth will increase but those with low birth rate will decrease.

I wonder if it is alright to quote an old post. I apologise if it’s against the rules. You are right, USA has a higher birth rate than other western countries (e.g. Europe). Scandinavia has a fertility rate at slightly above 1.5 because of immigration as well and so does Australia. Australia has a lot of mix marriages and people of ethnic ambiguity (especially among the younger generation). Even Asian countries like Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, and Korea have relatively low birth and fertility rates too.
