I don't think I've ever heard of an octopus biting through a snails shell, and it doesn't seems particularly likely to me. This would neccesitate attacking the cone snail head on, which makes it a near impossiblity the octopus could actually pull it off.

I think it would be hard for me to see this rather small octopus getting a good hold and then biting through without being struck by the cone snail's venom. It just doesn't have the beak strength to pull off a feat like that. I think that the advantages of the octopus are important including the reach, speed and strength advantage, but the octopus would have to utilize them in order to get a win most of the time, and that's not happening most of the time IMO. The cone sail is better protected from envenomation because of its armour, compared to the rather soft bodied octopus. A win for the ocotpus isn't impossible though, it could bite through the limited exposed soft tissue, but it would have to react quickly. Pretty interesting videos on both animals: www.youtube.com/watch?x-yt-cl=84359240&x-yt-ts=1421782837&v=zcBmMPJrrKkwww.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=3Vm1e9d2uuo

I think the octopus wins due to its tentacles and beak.
