I like that one the most. Seems like that, in general, the more we find out about sauropods, the more awesome and badass they seem to become.

That one may have been my favourite talk at SVPCA. An awesome hypothesis and presented with a lot of humor (as you can see from the published slides and sv-pow! posts). It wasn’t envisioned as an anti-predator weapon, but I couldn’t resist placing a theropod in the drawing. No matter how I look at it, it seems like an effective defense mechanism, most of the vulnerable tissues of the neck being well-protected and with an additional, forward facing weapon. I think being primarily a means of intraspecific combat (as Taylor suggested based on the lack of such features in other Morrison sauropods) is correct, but it would also be a pretty nasty deterrent to attacks by most predators.
