I've heard too of these alleged larger specimen of Velociraptor indeed. But do not forget the skull structure of mongoliensis do not fit the skull shape in the movie, more Deinonychus-like. Jack Horner has just talked about the fourth JP. I post it the Jurassic Park thread, we are in the Walking with Dinosaurs subject ! The skulls are relatively similar to those in some mounted Deinonychus, however the skull shape seen in skeletals looks more like the elongate snout of Velociraptor, with a more convex skull-roof. 2.bp.blogspot.com/-YrzqMXdJX8I/T-h-anKOEoI/AAAAAAAALnY/o_MTDI7Rbak/s1600/Deinonychus+skeletal.pngProbably this is a similar situation as with sue, a matter of uncrushing the fossil. How much it has to be uncrushed is not always clear, tough I tend to rather believe the reconstruction that I know is from a scientist (and that btw is much more similar to related forms) than the one you can see in museums. other topic: Anyone else thinking this Deinonychus skull resembles that of the Carcharodontosaurus neotype? encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQ516vkBjde1D12KUh7VaGpb-Adc2-8v0M4JOSQdF9RlciMVhQQ

I read Hartman was among the consultants and anatomy designers (http://skeletaldrawing.blogspot.co.at/2013/05/hey-trailer-with-my-dinosaurs.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+SkeletalDrawing+%28Skeletal+Drawing%29). The animation and as far as I can tell the morphology of the animals looks absolutely great. Now, if the documentary is also going to be accurate in the other regards, this is perhaps gonna be the best dinosaur documentary ever made.

Yes, Hartman on FB was very enthusiastic about it. The CGI are wonderfull.
Definitely 2013-2014 will be dinosaurs years. And we can expect incoming research (Spino) will surf on it to get publicity.

Well, Dinosaur Revolution too had brilliant models, but it still was relatively inaccurate. Holtz was disappointed of DR. This also seems to be more story based. Altough I'm still looking forward to accurately animated dinosaurs, as I were always a fan of the creations shown on screen and when they are accurate this time, it's going to be absolutely great!

I think if hartman was the anatomy designer we can expect the models to be pretty accurate this time. For the ethology and ecology, I'm not so sure, but lets hope they won't blow it this time. Back then, WWD was really great. I know how important good animation and compositing are to make a documentary worth watching. Of course, now WWD is barely more than entertainment. But if you get the models and animation right, you already have the foundations to make a good documentary.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpYE1Oe9Q_cThere seems to be another new BBC production about the ice age. The cgi looks fantastic and extremely detailed and lifelike, like in the dinosaur film. I just hope there will be more episodes than these few mainstream time periods, like in the original series. Something I think is really great is that here you can see quite some different animals from the pleistocene, not just 3 or 4.

I would like if they would combine the concept of Planet Dinosaur with the much higher budget they now have. That would be brilliant.

Agreed! The concept behind PD was really great, even tough the effects and scope weren't that good.

It's contest seemingly goes more in the direction of DR. The story however reminds me of MotD, maybe because it are similar animals.

The story and time period it is set in isn't very interesting to me, Campanian North America has been dealt with too often and unfortunately it the animals seem humanized, but the animation is so wonderful I'm definitely gonna watch it. Also, going by the BBC page this won't be the only episode. btw that ice age giants-documentary is on youtube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKY0oxgaRW0Despite the great animation, a bit disapointing. It is more like the special of walking with beasts than the actual episodes. I had hoped to see more of the actual animals. Still, it is definityle worth watching and a high-quality documentary imo, with the scenes there are being really good and the information seemingly too. It is hard to describe what made the Walking With-series so great, it was the combination of a dramatic story with good, uninterrupted animation imo, but there's more to it. The animals were not humanized like for example in DR, making the whole thing more lifelike, despite tons of inaccuracies, and it wasn't as childish as MotD. Hard to describe, but we can only hope the new film will be like it, just with fixed facts and recent CGI.

I found some major innacuracies. Here is one of them. They said Carnotaurus was 4 m tall and being as tall as T. rex. Carnotaurus holotype's femoral is only 103 cm, that's not even close to femoral length of Tyrannosaurus specimens. I know Carnotaurus is unrelated animal, but i highly doubt Carnotaurus legs are as long as T. rex, even though part of tibia and metatarsus are missing. BTW: T. rex wouldn't be 4 m with normal pose, more like ~3.4-3.6 m. Carnotaurus would be probably ~3 m or a bit less. If T. rex was 4 m tall, it would look like this: www.rvc.ac.uk/SML/Projects/images/mor555.jpg

Yes, there are flaws, but there are also many updates compared to the original files and some new datas. Still, it's for the popular audience at first for sure...
