I don't think Josephoartigasia was anywhere near 1 tonne, I never realized that the skull was literally twice as big as that of a Capybara and very similar in proportions.

Oh, well, thanks again anyway for your awesome size charts.
Then, this is a clear cut mismatch I suppose.

Just out of curiosity, how heavy would this giant rodent be? I know it's smaller than the bison, but I still would like to know how big it is to get a good idea of a fairer match-up I can make out of it.
Bison easily wins this btw.

The skull is twice as long as that of a 73kg capybara, assuming similar proportions that will result in a weight 8 times greater or ~600kg, both seem a little high for what's depicted in my size chart, perhaps that 73kg capybara was an overweight captive specimen.

Even taking the one tonne Josephoartigasia, there's not a lot it can do against something with deadly hooves and sharp horns. In the dinomyid's defense, it could bite but I dunno how that'll work. Bison 9/10

I agree with JHG here. Bison for the win.

Yeah, the bison has a significant size advantage, so that should let it win. It's also a very impressive bovine for its size with formidable hooves, horns, and durability, and I favor it 8/10.
