The grieving mother Orca

Well, this is really turning into a tragedy. It's not just a personal one, the whole resident population this female belongs to, is facing extinction.
No offsprings in the past 3 years.

Yes, the only hope that can come from this misery, is to (1) spread the news to the public of the incredible emotional intelligence of orcas (along with many other cetaceans), and (2) to spearhead some plan of action to help this orca population to somehow get the nutrition they need (some kind of no fishing zone in their area or some way to get them more salmon would be nice). Of course, these orcas but symbolize the enormous pressure we are putting on all ocean populations and life by sucking out all of the ocean's resources and endlessly polluting it.

What a relief..after apparently not eating or taking any fluids for 17 days. She seems to have endured it like a champ.
