Megalania is far bigger than any extant felid. It is even bigger than the kodiak bear, wasn't that one enough? V. priscus comfortably exceeded a ton. It is 4 times bigger!
I agree, such a matchup being at parity is highly illogical.

I did make the Kodiak Bear vs Megalania debate at parity.
I also did a Xenosmilus vs Megalania. Since this cat could of gotten to 800 lbs. We could have that fight at parity too with both being 800 lbs.

if you put 500 kg megalania against 250 kg African lion. Megalania with venom huge serrated teeth and all its other aspects.
Only way I see lion wining this fight is if lightning comes from the sky and hits megalania. (oh yes and kills it hitting the heart directly, if that is not accomplished things still don't look that great for the lion)
Megalania wins hands down.
