I recently watched a Christmas movie where Dasher is explicitly referred to as female. Now it makes more sense lmao.
(Oh, and it turns out female caribou keep their antlers through the winter and only shed them when they calve in May. That sounds pretty rough.)

There was a grotto at Hierapolis (in what's now Turkey) that the ancient Romans thought was a gate to the underworld. The mouth of the grotto emitted vapors that were thought to be the Hadean breath and/or the breath of the hellhound Kerberos. It attracted ancient tourists and was used for ceremonial animal sacrifices, particularly involving birds, rams, and bulls. On special events, where either a bull or ram was sacrificed, the vapors would kill the strong, powerful bull, but leave the priest unharmed. The priests' survival was attributed, among other things, to god-like powers or antidotes. ...In reality, the mouth of the grotto emitted carbon dioxide with concentrations high enough to kill a human. The reason why the priest was left unharmed was because he would stand upright and make sure his mouth and nose were well above the elevation at which the deadly concentrations of CO 2 were at. The bull, on the other hand, would be standing with its nose and mouth 60-90 cm above the ground, rendering it vulnerable to asphyxiation. The priests were almost certainly aware of the diurnal changes of the gas and the varying height thereof. Therefore, they presumably carried out their religious ceremonies in the evening or early morning when days were calm. Whenever they just wanted to show off, they'd perform at midday and hold their breath to, you know, not die. Mind you, the fumes from this grotto still kill mammals, birds, and insects, so it's as deadly as ever. link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2Fs12520-018-0599-5

You remember this old skull comparison by blaze? The beast on the left is Sarkastodon. John P. Alexander, former manager of the fossil mammals collection at the American Museum of Natural History, said that he was able to fit a modern tiger skull in the mouth of Sarkastodon (the type specimen). i.ibb.co/Hdt6jXn/Screen-Shot-2022-02-19-at-8-14-29-PM.png
