Soo..anyone wanna give their take on this?
I'm a big fan of Maximbady but I disagree with his view here.. what actually happened imo, was that the lizard - undoubtedly stupid for trying to attack that mantis though - simply got "frozen" in shock, like the narrator stated in the first place. It got the sharp end of mantis' leg stuck right into his eye. The pain probably prevented any further movement, because moving would only make it worse.
And after the lizard finally managed some defensive reaction, the continued shaking motion followed by the inability to flee, shows that the effect of the shock was already too severe.
