Hippopotamus gorgops Hippopotamus gorgops ("Gorgon-eyed river horse") is an extinct species of hippopotamus. It first appeared in Africa during the late Miocene, and eventually migrated into Europe during the early Pliocene (where its fossils were first discovered). It became extinct prior to the Ice Age. With a length of 4.3 metres (14 ft), a shoulder height of 2.1 metres (6.9 ft), and a weight of 3.9 tons, H. gorgops was much larger than its living relative, H. amphibius. Another feature setting it apart from H. amphibius were its eyes. Modern hippos have eyes placed high on the skull, but H. gorgops took things a step further and had what could be described as short eye stalks, making it even easier for the creature to see its surroundings while (almost) fully under water. Pliosaurus carpenteri Pliosaurus (meaning 'more lizard') is an extinct genus of thalassophonean pliosaurid known from the Kimmeridgian and Tithonian stages (Late Jurassic) of Europe and South America. Their diet would have included fish, cephalopods, and marine reptiles. This genus has contained many species in the past but recent reviews found only six to be valid, while the validity of two additional species awaits a petition to the ICZN. Most species of Pliosaurus are notable for their large body size, while the others, P. brachydeirus, P. brachyspondylus and P. portentificus, are known exclusively from immature individuals. Pliosaurus carpenteri would have been one of the smaller species, at 4.2 tons. Credit to Wikipeida

Uh, this is a tough one..leaning towards the pliosaur but also think the hippo would have a greater fatal bite capacity(if his jaws were like that of the h. amphibious)

sam1Yes, I believe H. gorgops would have had a similar bite capacity to the modern hippo. I myself would give the edge to Pliosaurus. It has a proportionately much larger skull and bite and is the better swimmer of the 2. Otherwise, this is a tossup. Pliosaurus 65/35
