In your opinion, how good of a land fighter are crocodiles and their kin? Discuss your takes here. I see crocodilians often badly underrated on land; hopefully we can get that out of the way with the aid of this thread

There is maybe a handful of crocodilians you can make claim for doing decently on land. They are alot less agile and fluid in their movements terrestrially than they are in the water. Cuban crocodiles, and the dwarf caimans are probably the top of the heap, especially the former.

As per the second post here, yes that is true AFAIK. Cuban crocodiles are so mobile on land that they have been known to harass and maim 5-6 times bigger American crocs which is presumably due to said mobility. And dwarf caimans seem a lot like mini rauisuchians

Not so much due to mobility as temperament in captivity in that case. That being said, they have been (suspected) known to hybridize with american crocodiles in the wild.

Not related to fighting, but there is a recent paper by John R. Hutchinson et al. documenting divergent evolution of locomotor abilities in today's crocodilians. Basically: - They analyzed 42 different individuals from 15 species weighing from 0.5 to 43 kg. - Velocity ranged from 0.15 to 4.35 m/s. - Most of the crocodyloids used asymmetrical gaits (galloping, bounding) while no alligatoroids did. Oddly enough, it didn't matter what gait they used to achieve top speed; they could all move at a similar top speed (mentioned above) if they wanted to. www.nature.com/articles/s41598-019-55768-6whatsinjohnsfreezer.com/

Interesting, so they're pretty competent on land overall from species to species.
