Big carnivorous dinosaur designed for hunting 20 ton sauropods vs big quadruped. HMMMMM. I wonder who will win.

Well, I wouldn't call this a slaughter or anything - the mastodon can for sure put up a fight and isn't incapable of winning.
That said, I agree the carnosaur wins here. Good reach and weaponry; a bite to the face or trunk would be extremely lethal and devastating.

a bite to the face or trunk would be extremely lethal and devastating. Actually no. Elephants have lost their trunks and survived.

What I actually meant is that it would cause a lot of damage and pain very quickly as well as cause respiratory issues.

Tearing off the trunk will hurt, but there's no reason to think that will be the end of the fight.

No, it wouldn't be the end of the fight. You are correct. However, it would certainly turn the fight in the dinosaurs' favor by a rather large margin, as the mastodon will then have to deal with blood loss, pain, and breathing problems

Well, yes. Maybe I ought to watch the wording. Anyhow, for those who might need it, here's a size chart of SGM-DIN 1 (12.95 meters standing length, 9 tonnes) vs AMNH 9950 and 595BS71 (289 and 325 cm shoulder height and 7.8 and 11 tonnes, respectively). Scalebar is 1 meter, skeletals are by Asier Larramendi and SpinoInWonderland

Carcharodontosaurus admittedly may be around a similar weight to the mastodon, but its teeth and claws are still better in a fight.
