A sad day. Kobe Bryant, one of the greatest basketball players of all time, died in a helicopter crash along with his thirteen year old daughter, Gianna, and seven other people, including a college baseball coach, his wife, and their daughter, who was Gianna's basketball teammate. They were going to a game in which the girls were going to play and Kobe was going to coach. He was 41 years old
I have a 12 year old daughter and 10 year old son, and I am only a few years older than Kobe. I watched him play (rooted against him but always respected him) his whole career. I can't imagine the pain his wife and three other daughters are going through. I can't imagine losing your spouse and your daughter, and the pain the other families are also going through. No words can describe it.
Of all the awful and beautiful things that humans do to each other and to our planet, it's the truly randomness of things like this that are the most terrifying and yet, if you let it, most enlightening. Live each day the best you can, reach your goals, treat others with kindness. None of us - rich or poor - are guaranteed our next breath. RIP Mamba.

I heard about this. I don't follow sports, so I didn't really know much about him (though I'm pretty sure I heard his name thrown around at times), but still, this was sad and jarring to hear. Tying in with your last paragraph, regarding the randomness of life, this wasn't something I was expecting to hear about happening this morning (it's quite literally only been about 12 hours since the time of the plane crash).
My condolences to the families of the helicopter crash victims.

My condolences as well. This must be awful for all their friends and family.

It may seem that a tragedy like this has no meaning but think about how many people were touched by this in and got to reflect on the essentials of life. Millions have cried. To quote Marc Gasol .." You realize how precious and fragile life is, and what really matters. I just want to go home and hug my kids and wife."
