The smilodon populators have stronger forearms than the American lions, however, their long canines makes them more vulnerable to being broken. I am not underestimating the smilodon’s canines and they are definitely not twigs plus they are capable of killing prey and opponents with skull bites. In spite of this, gorillas also end up with broken jaws and teeth in fights with each other. I think that one on one, a smilodon populator could outwrestle an American lion before delivering a skull bite etc. Yet the American lions outnumber the smilodon populators and this would make me favour the American lion pride. Four American lions could take out two smilodon populators before helping their other two comrades (which are fighting one on one with a smilodon populator each).

I would favor the sabertooths here one on one due to a lot more muscle power, but in this match I lean slightly towards the lions due to weight and numbers. It would be close probably.

There are more lions than Smilodon, and they outweigh them all, even if they lack precise stabbing saber teeth, they still win.
