^That sounds like quite a bit. Why do you think so?

Divide 5000 by the average weight of a male tiger

No, I meant a tiger being able to kill a full grown elephant seems like quite a lot. Do you have any accounts of it?

Hm...I wonder what mountainlord has to say about them, since they posted them. A tiger can and HAS killed full-grown Bull tusker elephants before. This is a confirmed fact. There are several reliable accounts of this happening. Even accounts verified and reported by forest officials, deputy directors, park rangers, wildlife field veterinarians and undisputed tiger authorities.
I have already posted the accounts before. This is not debatable, its a known fact that tigers have and are well capable of killing adult Bull elephants.

Pretty impressive, I must say!
In a head on fight, I'd favor the elephant 9/10, but the tiger is CAPABLE.

Pretty impressive, I must say! In a head on fight, I'd favor the elephant 9/10, but the tiger is CAPABLE. In a head-on fight in an enclosed space, the tiger will definitely get smashed and destroyed by the elephant. But in an open fight in the jungle, the tiger will circle the elephant, jump on its back and maul it for a prolonged period of time, then jump off, and wait for the elephant to bleed out and weaken, and then the tiger can attack and maul again, which will cause the elephant to bleed out and die.
Sometimes tigers even attack and maul the trunk of the elephant, dig their claws in, which is very, very painful for elephants. I've read numerous accounts of this happening.
Some Bull tusker elephants have been severely mauled by tigers.
In an enclosed space, the fight favours the elephant. But in an open jungle setting, the fight favours the tiger. Elephants are much larger, slower and much more cumbersome compared to tigers, once the tiger gets onto the elephants back and starts to maul it, its very hard for the elephant to get the tiger off.

You do have a point there. I could definitely see a tiger wearing down large prey like that with a hit and run.

Exactly. In an open space, the tiger being much smaller, much faster and much more maneuverable compared to the much larger and slower elephant, it can just jump on the elephants back and maul it.
This is what happens when these two titans collide in the jungle.
In a head-on fight, its easy for the tiger to evade the elephants charge and jump on its back. Even attack and maul its trunk.
There's an account of an elephant that died from injuries to its trunk, it received in a fight with a tigress.

Interesting, a tigress! How big was the elephant?

In your opinion, what's the biggest prey a tiger can kill and why? Discuss. TheLionBoy mountainlord You 2 may wish to participate. Take a look at 'prey preferences' of the Tigers at large. SOURCE of Figure 2: zslpublications.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1469-7998.2011.00871.x"Tigers Panthera tigris continue to decline despite the best efforts of the worldwide scientific and conservation communities. Prey depletion has been linked to this decline, but a clear definition of what constitutes preferred prey and preferred prey weight range does not exist. This is critical information if we are to assess tiger reintroduction potential, monitor unforeseen poaching of predators and prey, and successfully conserve the species. Here we reviewed the available literature on tiger diet and prey availability and calculated Jacobs's electivity index scores from 3187 kills or scats of 32 prey species. We found that wild boar and sambar deer are significantly preferred by tigers, with red deer and barasingha likely to be significantly preferred also with a larger sample size. Prey body mass was the only variable that related to tiger prey preference with species weighing between 60 and 250 kg preferred by tigers yielding a ratio of predator to preferred prey of 1:1, which is similar to other solitary felids. This information can be used to predict tiger diet, carrying capacity and movement patterns, as it has been for Africa's large predator guild, and has important implications for tiger conservation throughout its distribution."NOWTigers are definitely capable of killing animals larger than themselves such as Gaur. There are reports of Tigers taking their chances with Asian elephants in the Corbett National Park (Uttarakhand; India) but the big cats are going after juveniles mainly. For reference: www.oneindia.com/india/fact-check-are-tigers-eating-elephants-in-corbett-national-park-2909727.htmlMY VIEWAssuming an highly experienced and strong Tiger (male), it might be able to take on and subjugate an sub-adult Asian elephant. I do not rule out the possibility of a Tiger 'attacking' even an adult Asian elephant but this is much different from producing an actual KILL; ACCOUNTS of these trophic interactions "cannot be independently verified." Taking on a healthy adult elephant, even Asian, is energetically costly and risky move for 'any' macropredator in the wild. Just because Tigers are noticed feeding on the carcass of an adult Asian elephant, does not prove PREDATION; scavenging is always in the picture. A tiger can kill single handedly kill a bull asian elephant 21.6 times their own weight I would like to see relevant scientific data/statistics. Provide your own information. I do not appreciate posting links of other forums here. Thank you. ACCOUNTS = SUBJECTIVE Predators SCAVENGE as well. What is the size of an adult elephant? Which species of elephant? How do you define an ADULT elephant? I am expecting credible answers. I do not welcome YOUTUBE type comments in this forum.
