The wolves are far more numerous than the scimitars, and with a bigger combined weight, they can dominate the battle.

Dire wolves would definitely win, I agree. As you said, larger combined weight, stronger jaws, and lots of numbers. Plus they're more robust and have superior stamina. I'd also think that if the wolves split up unevenly, the scimitar with less wolves wouldn't be able to kill the wolves as fast as the scimitar with more wolves gets killed, which obviously favors the dire wolves.
