Modern lions of similar weights to Homotherium have difficulty taking down young bull elephants, even in large numbers. If this is a large 9 tonne adult I don't see them taking down the mammoth quickly if at all.

Hm...I do see this as a long, yet somewhat interesting stalemate. Some Homotheriums might die, the mammoth might recieve some injuries, but it's going to be VERY hard for either to kill the other. I think I'll wait for other's takes on this.

The mammoth is much larger than all the scimitars together, and with its tusks and thick skin, it's gonna win the fight.
