The dholes can take down a sloth bear in a fight to death but once again, there is the risk of losing members. The sloth bear unlike the sun bear has a greater tendency to fight rather than flight.

Yes, the fight would be close and hard since the sloth bear is decently well armed and aggressive. I could see the dholes winning in a death fight, but the bear would be able to kill quite a few before going down.

The sun bear is the most defensively aggressive bear and in most cascades, the dholes would avoid this bear. Still, the sloth bear is not invinsible and six dholes can kill it in a fight to death. Dholes do not have the mentality of gladiator dogs, fighting roosters which have lost all fear and caution thanks to animal cruelty. Even grizzly bears will most likely disappear out of sight when men comes unless they feel threaten or their cubs are in danger. The barren ground grizzly which is the most offensively aggressive of the bears will not press the attack further when the larger male polar bear stands its ground.
Back to topic, wild animals put survival first and dholes as well as sloth bears are not exception.

If you had said "pack of four" I would have given the sloth bear a 50-50. These wild dogs, under 40 pounds each, are small but ferocious dogs. Against four, the bear stands at least ( IMHO ) a 50-50 chance of walking away from this face-off. But six would overwhelm the bear ( IMHO ).

The bear is heavier than the entire pack combined, but the dholes still have numbers on their side, and it can allow for greater opportunities to attack, hence why the dholes will win.
