Hm...this is probably a pretty close match. The hyena probably has superior jaws and durability, but the tosa's got a good size advantage and is likely stronger. Guess whoever attack first wins.

^That as well; the loose skin could help. The tosa may win, actually

The tosa may win, actually Stamina might be an advantage too, i cannot name a single dog breed (outside perhaps some freak bandogs) that are in 50 kg range and can fight for an hour straight like tosa does, koreans and japanese have been selectively breeding tosas with APBTs last few decades to create more endurance ran welterweight dogs, tosas over 130 pounds are basically crap. South korean champ, emsung.

That would help as well. You do have a point that they have very good stamina.

One thing I'll point out for the tosa, is more so than other top dogs they have loose shifting skin and very thick durable skin.
They're extremely durable, part of the reason their fights are so inoffensive and legal and a tourist attraction, they have an extreme pain tolerance and extreme durability so their fighting is thought of as "wrestling" because there's very little injury and no yelping and no blood etc.

Similar to badgers no? I have heard that yes.
Tosa probably wins around 6.5-7/10.

The tosa inu has the bigger chance of victory compared to the hyena due to its slightly heavier size.

Bumping this thread I guess. Was just reading for a bit and came across this. I seen a few pariah dogs and greyhounds **** up a brown hyena. There was an entire pack of dogs surrounding it, all getting right up in its face, and... the hyena bit not a single dog. At points, the greyhounds (2 of them) would grab its head and totally immobilized it. But because there were so many dogs they would be on and off like "ehh who gives a shit there's too many of us anyway". It was a big brown hyena too, and it refused to die, but eventually the dogs kind of had it and it was mercifully clubbed to death by the farmers. Still, from that unfair unethical video we can glean that brown hyenas are shit at fighting dogs and bad at nailing dogs. Oh and I also incidentally know 1-2 Maritsanes or 2-3 Boergreys handle a brown hyena easy every time with little danger to themselves, and kill it outright, I just happened to find a really shitty primitive barbaric example. However it did put into perspective how easy it really would be for a Maritsane to just walk up to it and maul it to death eventually. An urgent hunting greyhound eventually wins this, a Tosa is a mismatch. None of the above dogs even in a pack of 10 could hurt a Tosa in a million years.
