There's a good reason hyenas dominated the Pleistocene of Europe, their greater numbers here allow them to easily take the lions on despite them being lighter than the bigger predators, plus their jaws are stronger.

It will be a similar relationship between African lions and spotted hyenas. Cave lions are not as socialble as African lions

Hyenas win this for me as well. The numbers and the strong jaws are a very important factor.
