I don't see your problem. Why is your list less chauvinistic then? It says that some quite big taxa like therapsids and dinosaurs are generally more intelligent than others. It's just a larger scale. At this scale, no single species or genus is glorified. As in, you won't see a single one above all the others in the large-scale list. I think I know what you mean, but in my opinion your list seems to be even more chauvinistic than a ranking on species level, because it says that some big taxa are generally smarter/"better" than other big taxa. However on species level you can say that e.g. the cephalopod X is smarter than mammal Y even if the most mammals are more intelligent than cephalopods. Or let's look on the indiviual level: The cat Fluffy is smarter than the dog Charlie,...

Yes but it holds basically the same problems. This is one of the point people always use in their "inferior reptiles"-beliefs, remember?

Plus, most of the intelligence levels are unknown, so it is hard to determine averages.

True, the majority of animals are unstudied (and even studying them does not guarantee perfect understanding of an animal's cognitive ability), so such averages are very unrigorous observations at best. I can admit this is somewhat necessary when talking about such a complicated field tough.

Ah ok. Thanks. Look at the comments of that page. Some guys think that cats are the most useless and stupid animals ever, and some others that dogs are dumb and idiots because they take commands from someone. These statements are just stupid.

Things like that are common in the internet, when two animals get compared.

i honestly never cease to be impressed by corvids. their tool making skills and dexterity as well as problem solving skills are able to put even most primates to shame
