I was originally going to wait for my retrospective reviews to fully detail this prospect I alluded to in the Discord palaeodocumentary channel, but on second thought it probably deserves its own thread so nobody has to hunt through the retrospective reviews to find it.
The way I'd recommend listening to mixes and matches is muting the documentary while playing the separate soundtrack at your volume of choice.
Some mixes and matches I like are as follows. More will come later when I do more mixing and matching.
1) Prehistoric Planet Hatzegopteryx hunting Tethyshadros with the soundtrack of the lizard, Velociraptor, and Tarbosaurus arc
Times of note are:
-Unmodified track: 2:04-2:51 for documentary, 2:47-3:34 for soundtrack
-Would sound nice with modifications: 1:35-2:03 for documentary, 2:47-3:08 for soundtrack (the idea is the slow paced Velociraptor stalk music playing while the Hatzegopteryx comb the field, it already happens in part of the unmodified track but the stalk music would need to be modified to fit the whole Hatzegopteryx hunt by being stretched out).
-Would sound nice with modifications: 0:33-1:18 for documentary, 2:07-2:46 for soundtrack (the idea again is to stretch it out to fit the length of the Hatzegopteryx arriving, and also to be more in line with the timing of dramatic moments).
2) Prehistoric Planet Nanuqsaurus hunting Ornithomimus with the soundtrack of the arc where it hunts Pachyrhinosaurus
The time of note is unmodified from 3:02-3:57 in the documentary and 4:09-5:04 in the soundtrack. It has the same dynamic, fast-paced tone as the original soundtrack, and even fits specific moment changes well in my opinion.
3: Same documentary as above (and same time of note), but also with the Alcione & Phosphatodraco soundtrack
The time of note in the soundtrack is unmodified from 7:13-8:08, it fits well for the same reasons as above.
This particular case is also a very good moment for me personally: I finally found a way in which I like this soundtrack!
Those of you who read my PP reviews might have seen that I thought I liked this one but remembered wrong on the rewatch. Turns out I remember right: I just don't like it with the pterosaurs. I like it with an on-the-ground dinosaur chase.
creature386 , as a suggestion for a rainy day activity, you might have fun editing these clips so that the different soundtracks here fit into them and their narration. If that is possible and something you are interested in, do share the videos here!
