A general thread for the scientific working process or other topics of the scientific world. I want to start with anti-scientific politics or attitudes in different countries. Today I found this articel on the English Scienceblogs: scienceblogs.com/confessions/2013/10/06/the-canadian-war-on-science-updates-to-the-chronology-of-the-conservative-governments-anti-science-actions/The Canadian government seems to block scientific working process (e.g. in the fields of climate research), which caused a protest movement among Canadian scientists. According to an article in the New York Times there some similarities to the situation under G.W. Bush in the USA. I'm not an American, so I have not really an idea what is going on there. But it's conspicuous that often conservative parties show an anti-scientific behaviour, but why? I can't imagine it's only because of the religion (e.g. Republicans in the US)...and how could we support a pro-scientific attitude in conservative societies?

Conservative people often don't want new things to get published that may obliterate their outdated views, so logically they are not big fans of scientific discoveries.
Eg. assume some party is denying the effects of global warming (because of lazyness), these people certainly won't faciliate the publications of studies proving them wrong.
