No. His endeavors typically center around saving Princess Peach from Bowser. Even in his debut appearance (he wasn't even called Mario at the time) he's saving a woman from Donkey Kong. The Mario Kart games are just (highly successful) spin-offs intended to be departures from the aforementioned lore. Well then, I suppose the games worked! I've never thought of Mario as anything other than a racer No, the Mario Kart games weren't supposed to make you forget that Mario has his own lore. And honestly, I think that latter statement is a bit sad. Where are you from? I'd imagine people would know and care about him more in some countries in the world than others, but Mario is a global cultural icon and his is the eighth highest grossing franchise of all time ( link). |
