I realized once more that I hate people who think studying the past is irrelevant to us now. It makes me want to shake my head whenever I hear the mindset that "it happened in the past, we don't need to know about it". One of Michael Crichton's books (namely Timeline) has, IMO, a good term for these people: temporal provincials.
I can elaborate a bit on this, but I'll simply state that whenever we say "you have to know the past to understand the present", we mean it!

^Reminds me of the very related concept that science can build computers and rockets, but it cannot even in principle study the past.
I wonder how Ken Ham would fare in a court. "You can't convict this guy because the crime was committed in the past and there is a difference between historical and operational science!!!"

Not really annoying per se, but I always have to giggle when I see people writing a comments with many insults and lack of good argumentation (or even grammar) and then add "I'm a scientist, I know more than you".

I dislike libertarian leftists, materialism, cosmopolitan hyper-class, anti-patriots, idiocraty, animal cruelty, most journalists...Most of this list is specific to my country. I dislike libertarian rightists, religious fanatics, people who value tradition over progress, homophobes, people who want to shut down free speech with their free speech, and people who don't like reading the news but still like complaining about political events.

Well, he for the most part inverted your examples to counter you as he is from a political camp opposite to yours.

The amount of misogyny on Carnivora currently pisses me off. I wonder how it would look like if the forum was less of a sausage fest.

I agree Carnivora's pretty low quality. Another thing that I hate is what happened in the Pachycrocuta clan of 5 vs Megaraptor thread in Carnivora's Spam Zone

I wonder what online animal-themed fora in general would look like if they weren’t such a sausage fest That's an interesting speculative evolution scenario. To be fair, looking at our feminism thread, I think the exaggerated anti-feminist hysteria on Carnivora is not much better here.
