So we all read accounts of old people managing to choke out dangerous predators like leopards and wolves, but if you were attacked by an animal what would you do? Assume that you are calm and rational, despite being in the midst of a mauling, while the animal is still behaving somewhat naturally. No weapons.
Black Listed: Elephants, rhinos, hippos, buffaloes. I don't see how any person could fend of any off a serious attack from any of these animals, short of a miracle.
Let's start off with something small:
How would you defend yourself from an attacking collared peccary?
Whoever posts the best response should choose next.

Does climbing a tree count? I think actually fighting a peccary would definitely be difficult. I think the Peccary could not dispatch a human easily either, it lacks the size, but its robust, durable body type would pose serious problems. Even jaguars struggle with them

I think climbing up a tree might work against a lot of hoofed animals. Unless it strong enough to shake the tree.

^Not what I had in mind, but I suppose if you could climb up a tree, you should probably go do that.
As for me, I am a bit too heavy to be hopping around like a monkey, so I would probably be forced to resort to pinning it down with my weight.
I have absurdly sharp nails, I deliberately make them so, so I would probably gouge out both its eyes and then retreat. Brutal I know.
I'd say I'd almost be guaranteed to survive the encounter, though at the cost of severe lacerations around my legs, and possibly my arms and hands.

Large constricting snakes can be particularly problematic if you don't know how to handle them, be it with a pet or when you're relocating a 'problem' animal. The key is to tire the animal out and/or grab the animal directly behind the head -- now if you grab too far back say on the snake's neck, you'll end up like this guy but probably worse if you don't have any one assisting you.

I'd dread to tackle a peccary, their tusks are vicious and can gouge huge holes in dogs and each other.
If it came to a mid sized cursorial animal where the threat of grasping forelimbs is greatly reduced I.e peccary, largeish canid I'd opt to try and control and restrain the head, choking could be an option, but I'd prefer to try bashing it's head against the ground or other objects. That strategy would do poorly against a bear or a cat though.
Although in reality pretty much any decent sized beastie that wanted a chunk of me would almost certainly succeed π
