If we're just giving any animal human intelligence, it would be advantageous to choose something that ussually isn't very intelligent, or at least has a small brain, in order to circumvent the payoffs. Speaking of which, I was thinking about choosing a rhinoceros, since they usually aren't very intelligent, and are too large and dangerous to be seen as prey to any extant animal. However, then I remembered that rhinos have a natural disadvantage of poor eyesight, something human intelligence cannot fix. Question out of curiosity: malikc6, does this hypothetical scenario make the assumption that we are born as this animal, or we suddenly transform into an adult specimen overnight? For instance, if someone wishes to be a crocodile (which would be a cool choice, no doubt), but they are a crocodile right from the egg, there's a miniscule probability that they will actually reach adulthood, since the great majority of crocodile cubs die in their first year.

This scenario is you being reborn as that animal, but having your memories and experiences and knowledge from your past human life. In a way, its like suddenly becoming the animal.

It'd cool to perceive the senses of a shark or some insects with a human brain. But if I stay the animal forever, I would probably choose one that lives very long, e.g. a large reptile. Or I become some kind of monkey and revolutionize monkey societies!

It's difficult to make a choice when the best choices are subject to being shot, either legally or illegally for the joy of killing.

I'd rather become an animal when it's at least somewhat capable of defending itself (eg. when it is the equivalent age of a 10 year old human child) and not completely helpless and reliant on its mother for protection. 0ldgrizz you can always choose to be a grizzly bear who existed 7,000 years ago, before the rapid rise of humans.

I'd probably also be a bear that existed in the ice age and try to prevent my species from going extinct. I shall save my kind.

A long lived bird, like a condor or albatross.

Being an elephant sounded nice at first, but I'm starting to have second thoughts. I like to move around to burn off energy, swinging between two chairs, running, etc., which require a tidbit of athleticism. I obviously can't do that if I'm a 6 tonne elephant; I can't even run, not even as a juvenile. So having that vigor and motivation to run in a body that can't would be quite vexing to me.
I like megatheropods too, but I fear the same thing I said above for elephants may still apply if I choose to be one. Also, will I not only live up to ~30 years if I'm a Tyrannosaurus? That would blow if that were the case.
Maybe a Haast's eagle before the arrival of humans on New Zealand is a good choice? I'm the undisputed top predator, I have some dexterity (though, not quite in the way or for the same purpose as a human), and I can fly.

I'd like to keep my opposable thumbs, so some ape would probably be great.

I think I'd do what broly did, except scale it up and choose the 95 ton OMNH 1331 Apatosaurus. I'd be damn near invincible that way.

What would you be? By the way, you have your knowledge and memories as you do now, and the instincts of the animal you have chosen. Megalodon.
