A nice traira (Hoplias aimara) caught by angler Martini Arostegui and IGFA record www.igfa.orgThis is the largest of the Hoplias species with specimens caught at a length of 120 cm, the largest rod and reel record stands at 101 cm. They can weigh as much as 40 kg (88 lbs).[3] This species has an elongated cylindrical shape. the colour is basically brown with a lighter base colour, although shades can vary, with a number of vertical patches or stripes. There are normally small spots visible on the upper anterior part of the body including the head, the patterning can vary geographically. The colour can be almost solid black through to pale brownish gold colour with marked dark stripes. Order: Characiformes Family: Erythrinidae Length or height: up to 120 cm in length Mass: 10 to 40 kg Diet: carnivore Killing apparatus: powerful jaws muskellunge Illustrations by Joseph R. Tomelleri © Muskellunge closely resemble other esocids such as the northern pike and American pickerel in both appearance and behavior. Like the northern pike and other aggressive pikes, the body plan is typical of ambush predators with an elongated body, flat head, and dorsal, pelvic, and anal fins set far back on the body. Muskellunge are typically 28–48 in (71–122 cm) long and weigh 15–36 lb (6.8–16.3 kg),[1] though some have reached up to 6 ft (1.8 m) and almost 70 lb (32 kg).[2] According to past references the muskellunge attains 8 feet (244 cm) in length; this, however, has never been confirmed and is based most likely on exaggerations. A fish with a weight of 61.25 lb (27.8 kg) was caught in November 2000 in Georgian Bay, Ontario. Order: Esociformes Family: Esocidae Length or height: 48-180 cm in length Mass: 8-32 kg Diet: carnivore Killing apparatus: strong jaws and sharp teeth

Also this is a close one, both have vicious dentition, though I think the giant trahira has stronger jaws based on the jaw structure and tooth design

Genuine question: why was the thread title changed back to "Interspecific conflict" (I think I changed it earlier to reflect who fights whom, but I was admittedly lazy and copied/pasted from the subtitle)? We don't literally name our threads "Interspecific conflict"; we already know this is the board for that. Titles follow a straightforward "*blank* vs *blank*".

Also wouldn't a fully grown wolffish be too large to be swallowed by a full grown musky?

tehnically yes, i could see muskie swallowing one third of it or so but the wolf fish is more robust, quite a bit too at that. dont know how fast wolf fish is by comparison tho, this is all i could find www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZQktgMHbes

Reportedly even killing medium sized dogs. But muskie is certainly swifter in the long run. What wins the wolf's side are jaws. The number of fishes who have bite like anjumare can be counted on fingers of single hand

Muskie also do not have the big scales on the body either, those could act like an armor for the wolffish

This seems like a doberman vs bulldog situation to me. With wolf fish being the latzer
