At sizes this even i'd go with the sloth bear. An animal that is usually avoided by most tigers is not one to scoff at.

The Asiatic black bear might not be as aggressive as the sloth bear but it has also been known to fend off tigers. The Asiatic black bear has stronger jaws than the sloth bear and it is slightly heavier. The sloth bear does have much longer claws.

You do have a good point - the sloth bear should indeed be the favorite. Very aggressive and more potent weapons - there's a reason tigers leave them be.

I actually favour the Asiatic black bear
It is quite formidable and it is capable of killing adult wild water buffalo by breaking their necks

That is indeed quite interesting! I'd still give the edge to the SB due to larger claws and teeth, but much closer than I thought.

Good choice but I still roll with the Himalayan bear
Moon bears are fearless and fend off adult tigers

Though sloth bears have larger claws and teeth, they dont really kill. They eat these guysWhile the Moon bear can kill these things

Hmm, doesn't really elaborate beyond that statement. First, how do they supposedly break water buffalo necks (with a swat, pulling the neck hard and repeatedly with the forelimbs)? With how much effort? Also, I can post an excerpt from a book (and a scholarly one at that) saying that an ostrich can rip open a lion with a single kick ( link->). But without so much as any details given, how prepared are you to believe that?

Another book this time from
Walker's carnivore of the world
"The Asiatic black bear frequents moist deciduous forests and brushy areas, especially in the hills and mountains. It ascends to elevations as high as 3,600 meters in the summer and descends in the winter. It swims well. According to Lekagul and McNeely (1977), this bear is generally nocturnal, sleeping during the day in hollow trees, caves, or rock crevices. It is also seen abroad by day when favored fruits are ripening. It climbs expertly to reach fruit and beehives. It usually walks on all fours but often stands on its hind legs so that its forepaws can be used in fighting. The diet includes fruit, buds, invertebrates, small vertebrates, and carrion. Domestic livestock is sometimes taken, and animals as large as adult buffalo are killed by breaking their necks"The Link books.google.fr/books?id=Ob3Jn2kh7YkC&pg=PA117&dq=Domestic+livestock+is+sometimes+taken,+and+animals+as+large+as+adult+buffalo+are+killed+by+breaking+their+necks&hl=it&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiAvsu07YHoAhX9AGMBHVClB7IQ6AEILDAA#v=onepage&q&f=false

Also another good decent ungulate that the moon bear can kill
Because of their large, powerful bodies and impressive horns, takins have few natural enemies other than bears, wolves, leopards, and dholes. animals.sandiegozoo.org/animals/takinOnly moon bears kill takin
There are no brown bears near takins
