An idea I just had: an animal that uses one of it's appendages to mimic it's own species young, allowing it to kill two birds (or perhaps one of something) else by devouring something that would eat the animal's children.
I'm not sure what this would be, or how feasible it is. The closest real life comparison I have is the Spider-tailed Horned Viper, whose name gives you the gist.
