This is the infamous account that would led to me getting banned. I will post it here for you all to decide how big the cat was, I translated it from Norwegian,
http://www.vg.no./nyheter/innenriks/artikkel.php?artid=586948 ATE WELL: The eagle ate half cat despite major injuries after his death agony. Photo: PHOTO THOMAS MØRCH (AP) Here sits the Golden Eagle and filling damaged after eating half a cat Hungry for dinner crashed golden eagle right down to the farm in Nes and attack kitty Friday afternoon. In the death match was the eagle so severely damaged that it could not move, writes local newspaper Hallingdølen.
- We thought it was dead. But then we went out and threw a blanket over the eagle to check, and then it turned out that the breath, says Thomas Mørch to VG Nett.
So called Mørch and his friend the sheriff and the local ørneeksperten. In an hour they sat with eagle wrapped in the blanket and waited for help. We put up with it as a baby, says Mørch (talking about the eagle) The cat had bitten properly from under death match and injured eagle powerful - including in the foot. But eventually had to give way to the air predators. It was lying half-eaten middle of the yard of the farm. The farmer who lives on the farm took it with smiles. He said he had several cats, says Mørch who usually spends much of his spare time to look for the Golden Eagles to shoot.
- It was just incredible luck that this would happen to me. Now I got an eagle right in his lap, he adds.
- Unusual
Ørnekjenner and amateur ornithologist, Per Furuseth mean Golden Eagle behavior is very unusual. According Furuseth must have been a very long and hard struggle between male eagle and it killed the cat.
- Track the location suggests that the cat has long fought against the eagle, and that they have moved over a large area. Most likely something has gone wrong when the eagle attacked the cat, because normally there should be no problem for an eagle to kill a cat, says Furuseth to Hallingdølen.
The eagle is taken care of by the Furuseth until it is healthy again
NOTES: Male Golden Eagle are anything but big, they average roughly 6-9lbs.
Picture of the cat after a large portion of it's body was eaten by the eagle.
Now does that cat look small compared to that eagle? Tho it should be noted that eagle are dimensionally much bigger than cats for their size, For instance here's a 2 pound hawk,
so in reality the cat might have been bigger than the male eagle! What do you guys (and girls) think?

That cat could very well have been heavier than the eagle, it is indeed surprising how light accipitrids are relative to their dimensions. This is something many don't realise, and threat an eagle like any other 5kg predator...

Yea apparently only the more dino oriented members of CF were smart enough to realize this. A shame me and Mulawin were the only major Accipitridae enthusiasts. Or if I recall you like birds of prey too?

I love them! They are some of the most fascinating, beautiful and powerful predators that exist imo. I might not have constructed my arguments in that thread very well tough...
However a smallish cougar against a Haasts eagle is not a mismatch like Taipan suggested.

Great! Nice to see another Accipitridae lover, we are quite rare these days, now everyone likes tigers and lions and bears or wolves. And I understood your point perfectly, but I couldn't help you as i'm a cat hater remember? Lol it seems as if you don't favor a cat against anything, your automatically a cat hater. I personally never found cats fascinating. Or bears for that matter.

They are fascinating to me, same goes for T. rex or meg or liopleurodon... Just unfortunately they are all so overrated. And these Reptile-haters annoy me so much!

Lol well I might just be too specialized in Accipitrids. But yes reptile hates get annoying if you hate reptiles, you hate birds. Although truth be told I have never heard of an accipitidae hater...

I'm always disturbed by this kind of scenes as I like kitties but the power and skills of the eagle for its weight is just frightening.
Makes me wonder if an Haast eagle would have stalked humans.

If you mean Haasts eagle predating on early humans then no I don't think. However there's proof prehistoric Crowned Eagle have predated on early human children.

About the dimensional size of birds, here a 10,5 lbs male harpy eagle (a house cat can reach comparable weights!):

I'm almost certain Haasts Eagles could have preyed on unarmed humans. Now give the human a spear, and thigs are different. But a scene like the one in monsters we met would be realistic.
It really didn't coexist with humans? Why does it appear in Maori legends, and why did it go extinct?
I really like this predator. It is not of nearly as extreme size as many of the other beasts, and was never that hyped-up, but it is was a very formidable carnivore nevertheless.

It seems a legendary Maori beast would be a representation of the Haast eagle.
It is supposed that Maoris destroyed them because of the threat and competitions they provided.
Since this raptor hunted and killed moa-sized preys, I see no problem as it would have targetted unarmed humans.
Sounds like a fantasy-movie scene...

No, the Haasts Eagle never initially coexisted with humans. Maori legends pictating them shouldn't mean anything major as back then people also said they saw dragons and devils roaming the woods. Grey it really does doesn't it? lol
