This squid is heavier than 300kg compared to a 1t crocodile.
The largest (and most famous, the one seen in the opening post) and perhaps only mature complete specimen in the few we have weighed nearly 500kg, it's beak is described as considerably smaller than some found in Sperm whale intestines, and it was estimated at 10m as opposed to 12-14 as the maximum (which is likely still conservative considering our tiny sample size of Mesonychotheuthis). A large collossal squid would probably be on par with or even heavier than a large saltie.
How much damage the squid's beak can do has to be tested before making definite statements. However I have the impression it is very well suited for how it would be used on a large animal, biting at something firmly held and immobilised by the tentacles, gnawing it off alive. There may be some degree of parallel with a raptor's beak.

Not wanting to imply the squid usually wins tough, but I think many people tend to underrate it because it lacks a skeleton.
The crocodile's jaws would have terrible effect on it's mantle or head indeed if it can place a bite there, they would probably effordlessly crush the vital organs.
I think in shallow water or high in the water collumn (where it can easily see and breathe when necessary) the crocodile will crush the squid. However I give the cephalopod good chances in very deep water, and it might succeed at times elsewhere if it succeeds to wrap its arms around the crocodile in time to avoid it's bite.

The croc has to touch the squid, therefore the squid doesn't need to move much. The rest should be self explanatory. How much damage would the squid's beak do to the crocodiles' armor? The answer is not much. How much damage would the crocodile's jaws do to the squid's soft body? I'll let you answer that one. I also don't see a 300 kg squid being able to drown a 1000 kg crocodile very easily. Crocodile armor is not steel. Leopard bite through it. A much stronger squids bite woulddo better. And why is everyone using freakish crocs?

Exactly, which is why I vote for the Crocodile. Pretty sure everyone here already knew this wasn't a krakken. Also "The tentacles have swiveling hooks used to grapple and maul prey". Actually read before you agree with something.

Actually read before you agree with something. Still the article says the Colossal Squid is an unimpressive fighter. Still siding with the Croc.
